Moodbidri, Mar 6 : Hilda Menezes of Hospet Church, an anganwadi worker at Mastikatte near here, has won a national award for her contribution to the field of education. She is one of the eight from the state to have been honoured so, and the awards will be presented at a function in Bangalore on March 8.
Wife of Vincent Paul Menezes of Hosabettu, Hilda has been working at the Mastikatte anganwadi centre over the last 14 years. She has won a state-level award earlier.
Starting with a training course in Manipal in 1988, she has set up two self-help and two empowerment groups for women. She has succeeded in obtaining a large number of donations in kind like building, toilet, power connection, water supply, water purifier, furniture, fan, oil paintings for the wall etc. from generous donors.
She has also helped a good number of women to get loans from banks, maternity allowance, identity cards for the physically challenged and many other facilities.
