February 18th 2015: Ash Wednesday –
The Lenten season starts today and we will celebrate the Easter on 5th April 2015. Corpus Christi Church morning mass was celebrated at 7.00 a.m. by V. Rev. Fr. Austin Peter Peres & Rev. Fr. Antony Fernandes. Ashes were blessed and put on the heads to remind the Christians repentance of sins by prayer, penance & helping others. The church was full with devotees who have kept their faith alive.
Ash Wednesday worship service is the chance for us to openly acknowledge our frailty and sinfulness. Ash Wednesday gives us an opportunity to freely confess our imperfections. We can let down our pretenses and be truly honest with each other about who we are. We all stand guilty before a holy God. We all are mortal and will someday experience bodily death.
Ash Wednesday service includes the “imposition of ashes.” Ashes are placed on the foreheads or heads of worshipers as a reminder of our mortality and sinfulness. The priest reminds us saying “You have come from dust, and to dust you will return.”
Ash Wednesday enriches our lives and our relationship with God. Let us use this holy season to come closer to God.
There will be also a mass in the evening at 5.00 P.M.
