Moodbidri, March 9, 2025: The Catholic Women's Association of St. Mathew Deanery joyously celebrated Women's Day at Holy Rosary Church, Alangar, Moodbidri, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The event commenced with a breakfast, followed by the Holy Eucharistic Mass celebrated by Rev. Fr. Melwyn Noronha. The liturgy was conducted by the committee members of the Women's Association.
Following the Mass, a formal stage program was held, graced by esteemed guests, including Rev. Fr. Elias D'Souza, Spiritual Director of the Women's Association of St. Mathew Deanery; Chief Guest Rev. Fr. Melwyn Noronha, Parish Priest of Holy Rosary Church; and the President of the event, Rev. Fr. Onil D'Souza, Vicar Forane of St. Mathew Deanery. Other dignitaries included Mr. Edward Serrao (Vice President of Alangar Church), Mr. Lawrence Anil (Secretary), and Mr. Rajesh (Ayog Convenor). Women's Association leaders, including Mrs. Gretta Fernandes (President, Alangar Church), Mrs. Shobha Sequeira (Secretary, Alangar Church), and Mrs. Leena Pinto (former President, Moodbidri Deanery), were also present. Parish priests Rev. Fr. Ronald Prakash D'Souza (Gantalkatte) and Rev. Fr. Herald (Shirthady) graced the occasion.
The program commenced with a prayer song and an energetic welcome dance by the women of Alangar Parish. Mrs. Ida Menezes, President of the Women's Association of Moodbidri Deanery, warmly welcomed the guests and the gathering. The formal ceremony was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries. Mrs. Wilma Crasta, Secretary of the Women's Association of Moodbidri Deanery, presented the annual report for 2024-2025.
Women Presidents and Secretaries of 14 units who served for the past three years were honored with mementos. Rev. Fr. Melwyn Noronha, in his address, commended women for their strength and sacrifices. Rev. Fr. Elias D'Souza praised the association's efforts in the deanery and diocese, while Rev. Fr. Onil D'Souza encouraged women to continue their impactful work in society.
Women members who contributed financially were recognized with mementos, along with core group members for their dedicated service. Rev. Fr. Elias D'Souza was also felicitated for his guidance as the association's spiritual director.
The event concluded with a vibrant cultural program featuring dances, skits, and songs by women from various units. Mrs. Neetha from Belvai Parish compered the event, while Mrs. Pramila Periera, President of Gantalkatte unit, delivered the vote of thanks. The celebration ended with a delicious lunch served to all attendees, marking a memorable and inspiring Women's Day celebration.
